Annihilation follows a group of scientists entering the Shimmer, a mysterious zone where reality refracts and mutates. Inside, time behaves unpredictably, biology fuses unnaturally, and identity becomes unstable. Lena, the protagonist, confronts a mirrored version of herself at the lighthouse, where the Shimmer originated. This double does not attack her but imitates her movements, forcing confrontation rather than violence. The film suggests that self-destruction does not always arrive as aggression. Sometimes it comes as transformation. The Shimmer reflects internal damage, trauma, and self-sabotage. Survival depends not on strength, but on acceptance of change.
